Mayne Talks ERP Innovation at Progress OpenEdge Summit, Etihad Stadium
On Wednesday 19th March, Mayne was invited as guest speakers at the Progress OpenEdge Annual Summit, held at the iconic Etihad Stadium in Manchester. The event brought together innovators and technology leaders from across Europe, exploring how businesses can evolve their legacy systems to meet modern demands. Representing Mayne were Dave Thompson (Creative Director), Jordan Butcher (Operations Director), and Oliver Burton (CTO)—sharing the stage in a fireside chat that sparked powerful conversations around ERP evolution.
Re-Interfacing, Not Rebuilding
Our core message? You don’t need to rebuild your legacy system—you can reinterface it. This concept has been at the heart of Mayne’s transformation. By building a scalable, modular system that sits over the robust Progress OpenEdge back-end, we’ve enabled our clients to modernize the user experience while retaining the performance and reliability of their existing infrastructure.
The Sketch Creative Acquisition
We also shared the journey of Sketch Creative’s acquisition of Mayne in 2022—a turning point that allowed us to reshape the ERP landscape for flooring distribution. The acquisition empowered us to take a UX-first approach, solving real user challenges while laying the groundwork for a future-proof ERP system.
Modern UX Solves Legacy Challenges
One of the biggest hurdles we tackled was the challenge of legacy UI—outdated, clunky interfaces that hinder efficiency. By prioritizing UX-first design, we’ve created a modern, intuitive front-end that not only looks better but dramatically improves usability and workflow. The message to attendees was clear: Design systems matter, and implementation should be staggered for seamless transition and adoption.
Optimising the Progress OpenEdge API
A major highlight was how we’ve optimised the Progress OpenEdge API to unlock real-time functionality in our modern front-end, all while continuing to leverage the powerful data processing and logic of the legacy system. It’s a perfect balance of legacy and innovation, allowing clients to experience the best of both worlds—efficiency, speed, and future-ready design.
Leading the Charge in ERP Evolution
Our time at the Summit reinforced Mayne’s position as an industry leader in ERP innovation for flooring distribution. We’re proud to be at the forefront of redefining legacy systems, creating solutions that are scalable, intelligent, and user-focused. This event was more than a presentation—it was a glimpse into the future of ERP, and we’re excited to continue driving that change.
